About Me

My name is Jake. I’m a former journalist and future lawyer. I also play music and make bad puns.

In 2012, I graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Journalism. During and shortly after college, I played guitar in several local bands in the Nashville area.

In 2013, I got a job as a general assignment reporter at The Mountain Press in Sevierville, Tennessee. There, I also covered local government and tourism quite a bit, and I wrote a monthly column. In 2015, I moved to Spring Hill, Tennessee, to work at a weekly newspaper and three monthly magazine publications. In 2016, I moved to Lebanon, Tennessee, to work at another daily newspaper as a beat writer covering cops and court. I also had a weekly column. During my short stint as a reporter, I won several Tennessee Press Association awards for journalism.

In 2017, I enrolled at Belmont University College of Law, and anticipate receiving my juris doctor in 2020.

My interests include playing music, reading, writing, photography, old video games, and sports. Those interests will probably be reflected in this blog.

Among my favorite bands at the moment are The Rolling Stones, Fleet Foxes, and Band of Horses. My favorite book series is A Song of Ice and Fire. My favorite sports teams are the Los Angeles Lakers, the Tennessee Titans, and the Nashville Predators.
